Country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer.

She died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by loved ones.

Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, first announced her death in an Instagram video on Tuesday. Her representatives later confirmed that she had been battling cancer, although the specific type of cancer was not disclosed.

Parton had been hospitalized in Nashville on August 21, four days before her death. She had also spoken publicly about experiencing health difficulties earlier this year.

Born in Tennessee in 1946, Parton became one of country music’s most successful artists, with songs including “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.” Her career also included acting, songwriting, business and philanthropy. She sold more than 100 million records worldwide and won 11 Grammy Awards.
