Burna Boy has broken the record for the most monthly listeners by an African artist in Spotify history.

The singer, born Damini Ogulu, recently crossed 46.84 million monthly listeners, overtaking the previous African record of 46.58 million held by South African singer Tyla.

He has since climbed further and now sits at 47.3 million monthly listeners.

The Grammy winner is on track to become the first African artist to hit 50 million monthly listeners on the platform.

His World Cup collaboration with Colombian singer Shakira, 'Dai Dai,' is driving the surge. The track recently hit number one on Spotify's Global Top Songs chart.

That makes Burna Boy the first African artist to top the chart since Wizkid did it with Drake on 'One Dance' in 2016.
