Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has addressed the attention surrounding her intimate scenes in films, saying the romantic moments audiences see on screen are part of her work and should not be read as evidence of an off-screen relationship.

Ogunmola made the clarification while responding to renewed interest in her romantic roles, particularly her repeated pairing with actor Daniel Etim-Effiong.

“We only kiss in movies,” the actress said, drawing a distinction between the characters she plays and her life away from the camera.

The issue has followed Ogunmola and Etim-Effiong since Summer Rain, a romantic drama built around their characters, Murewa Abe and Adimchi Amadi. The film centres on the pair reconnecting after a painful separation and attempting to rebuild their relationship.

A promotional clip from the film generated criticism in January 2025 because of an intimate scene between the two actors. Ogunmola subsequently defended the scene, pointing out that Etim-Effiong was performing as a character rather than appearing as himself.

The attention was amplified by the fact that Etim-Effiong is married, leading some social media users to question the boundaries between an actor's professional obligations and their personal relationships.

Ogunmola has maintained that distinction in subsequent interviews. In May 2026, she spoke about Etim-Effiong's conduct on romantic projects, describing him as disciplined and professional when handling intimate roles.

The repeated casting has kept speculation about the actors' relationship alive, but Ogunmola has rejected the idea that their chemistry on screen should be treated as proof of a romance away from work.
