Spotify has shared new figures showing how much Nigerian artists earned from music streaming in 2025. For a long time, the exact revenue generated by Nigerian musicians from streaming platforms remained unclear, but the company’s latest report has finally provided some insight.

In its annual Loud & Clear report, released in Lagos, Spotify revealed that Nigerian artists generated over ₦60 billion in revenue from the platform in 2025. The amount, estimated at around $43.8 million, highlights the growing financial strength of Nigeria’s music industry.

The report also noted that earnings from Spotify alone have increased by more than 140% in the past two years, showing how quickly the global demand for Nigerian music—especially Afrobeats—continues to grow.

Data from the platform shows that Nigerian artists recorded over 30.3 billion streams in 2025, totaling about 1.6 billion listening hours. Their songs were also discovered by new listeners more than 1.3 billion times, representing a 26% increase compared to the previous year.

Within Nigeria, local artists dominated the charts. Over 80% of the songs on Spotify Nigeria’s Daily Top 50 were by Nigerian musicians. At the same time, local streaming of Nigerian music grew by 170% year-on-year.

Internationally, the reach of Nigerian music continues to expand. Nigerian artists appeared in nearly 320 million user-generated playlists worldwide, while more than 60 million playlists featuring Nigerian artists were created on Spotify in 2025 alone.

Another major highlight from the report is the strong performance of independent artists. Independent creators accounted for 58% of the royalties earned by Nigerian artists on Spotify, challenging the belief that major record labels are the main path to financial success.

The number of Nigerian artists earning at least ₦10 million per year from Spotify has also risen significantly, more than doubling since 2023 and tripling compared to 2022.

Growth was also recorded across different segments of the industry. Streams of music by independent Nigerian artists within the country increased by 75%, while local streams for female Nigerian artists grew by 55%.

This progress follows strong growth in previous years. Nigerian artists earned over ₦58 billion from Spotify in 2024, compared to ₦25 billion in 2023 and roughly ₦11 billion in 2022, showing a rapid upward trend in streaming revenue.
